Msgr. Angelo Caruso Obituary
Peacefully passed away at Pioneer Manor (Sudbury) on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the age of 89 years old. Msgr. Angelo will be lovingly remembered by his sister Grace Wilson (Keith), his Godson Nathan Evans, and his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers: Joe (late Jessie), Sam (late Thelma), and Tony (late Adele), and sisters: Marie (late Bud), and Anna Marie. He is also predeceased by his parents Franceso and Angelina Caruso.
Msgr. Angelo was born in Pembroke on December 25, 1934 and Ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 1961 at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption (North Bay) by his excellency Bishop Alexander Carter. It is here where he began his ministry with kindness, mercy and love. From that day he was called to serve in many parishes throughout the diocese of Sault. Ste. Marie, including curate at Holy Name of Jesus Church, North Bay (June 23, 1961 – July 31, 1961), curate at Christ the King Church, Sudbury (August 1, 1961 – September 1, 1963), to name but a few. From here Msgr. Angelo continued to serve wherever he was called, becoming the Diocescan Financial Administrator in 1990. On June 11, 1996 Msgr. Angelo became a Prelate of Honour that was bestowed upon him by then Pope John- Paul II at the request of Bishop Jean Louis Plouffe for his exemplary commitment to the Church, having never taking a deserved holiday, and living in his office where he worked. In November of 2004 he became a Protonotary Apostolic, that was bestowed upon him by again, then Pope-John-Paul II at the request of Bishop Jean Louis Plouffe. From October 17, 2005 until the time of Msgr. Angelo’s retirement on June 30, 2016 he held the position of Episcopal Vicar for Ethics in Ministry and the Workplace. Msgr. Angelo’s service to the church and the faithful of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie leaves behind a legacy of commitment and faithful service.

The family will be receiving visitors at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption (North Bay) on Thursday, March 21, 2024 between the hours of 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm and 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
