Mona Lucille LaVigne
1931-2024
Mona Lucille (Shannon) LaVigne of Vernon, Connecticut at the
age of 92 passed away after a life well lived surrounded by friends
and family on April 24, 2024. She was born November 4, 1931, in
Florenceville, New Brunswick, Canada. She was the daughter of the late
John William and Carmen Lita (White) Shannon. On May 7th, 1951, she
married Ralph Edward LaVigne. They were married for 66 years before
his passing in 2017. Throughout her life she lived in many places
including Canada, Maine, Connecticut, Texas, and lastly Galena,
Missouri. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her
son, Martin Peter, a son-in-law, Marian Narkawicz, and her siblings
Phyllis Viel, Vera Shannon, John Shannon, Barbara Patterson, Shirley
Ellis, and Pearl Paterson.
She leaves behind her children, Valerie (Peter) Berger of
Galena, Missouri, Brenda Narkawicz of Coventry, Connecticut, Kevin
(Jane) LaVigne of Happy Valley, Oregon and Cameron (Michele) LaVigne
of Fischer, Texas. Mona, lovingly called Mimi, doted upon her
grandchildren, Jason (Rachel) Iacobucci, Laura (Enrique) Lima, Rachel
(Andrew) Hartman, Jennifer (Andrew) Wilhelmsen, Jessica (Elinor)
Howell, Aaron LaVigne, Shannon (Thomas) LaVigne Hill, Cameron
(Jacqueline) LaVigne II, PJ Berger, and Daniel Berger. She would light
up whenever she was in their presence. Her legacy also includes ten
great grandchildren. Mona is also survived by her sister Willa Rickard
of Hartland, New Brunswick, multiple nieces and nephews, and Juanita
Berger, a dear friend.
Mona was a member of Sacred Heart Church of Vernon, CT, for
many years. She was famous for her holiday pies and knitting. She also
loved traveling and cherished a trip to England with her husband for
their 50th wedding anniversary. Each year she especially looked
forward to her ritual trips back home to Canada to visit her siblings
and family in Hartland. A devoted wife and homemaker, Mona held many
jobs throughout her life, but she valued being a mother, grandmother
and great grandmother above all else. She was tenacious in her goals
for her family and the guiding hand that forged their path, leading by
example with love and kindness. She adored her family, and they in
turn adored her and brought her much joy. Small in stature but strong
in spirit, she remained a haven for her children and grandchildren as
they moved across the country and globe. Whether you called her Mona,
Mom, or Mimi wherever she was, she made you feel at home. Her passing
is a great loss to her family who deeply feel the absence of her love,
laughter and smile. It is a true testament of her life and legacy that
we all feel her passing at the age of 92 was simply too soon but take
comfort that she is reunited with her husband and loved ones in
Heaven.
Committal and burial service will be held on October 6th,
2024, at 3:00, at Saint Bonaventure’s Catholic Church
Cemetery, 1941 Route 560, Lakeville, NB, Canada.
