Obituary
Mildred Peddle passed peacefully away at Saint Luke’s Homes on Sunday, July 14th, at 86 years of age, surrounded by her loving family.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, John (Michael) Peddle; sister, Margaret Meadus (Reg); sister, Louise Hewitt (Wilfred- deceased); brother Joseph Hutchings (Cammie-deceased); and parents, Solomon and Belinda Hutchings.
She leaves behind wonderful, loving memories with her children: Todd (Tom); Kelly (Adrian); Lisa (Marc); and Lori (Leigh Ann); sisters: Florence Kippenhuck (Paul-deceased); Rhoda Breede (Peter); Joan Bowering (Melvin); Debbie Bowering (Ted); brothers: Jack (Ethel-deceased); Solomon; her cherished grandchild, Alec and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Mildred was born and raised in Tilton, Conception Bay, Newfoundland and spent her life surrounded by loving family and friends. At a young age, Mildred ventured out to St. John’s to start a career as a Nursing Assistant where she would soon meet the love of her life, John (Jack), while skating at the community rink. During their 58 years of marriage, Mildred and John (Jack) raised their four children starting in Paradise, then Mount Pearl, then Burlington Vermont, U.S. and then, finally making roots in Corner Brook, NL. Here Mildred found her calling as a childcare provider. Mildred or ‘Peddle’, as the children would call her, loved and cared for each, and every one of them as if they were her own and they looked up to her as their ‘second’ mother.
In their later years, Mildred and John (Jack) would retire in Old Shop, Trinity Bay. Mildred cherished the memories she made there with her family and friends during their visits, while taking walks on the beach with them, playing a good game of crib or simply sharing a cup of tea while admiring the view of the bay. Mildred treasured her relationships with all her sisters and brothers and the lifetime friendships she had made in her hometown, Tilton and Old Shop.
Mildred was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a strong woman whose wisdom reached and influenced many people throughout the years. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family at Warren’s Funeral Home, located at Main Street, Dildo, on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 2:00pm to 7:00pm.
The funeral service will be held at All Saints’ Church, Tilton, Spaniards Bay on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Roman Catholic Cemetery, Old Shop.
The family wishes to extend special gratitude to the staff at Admiral’s Coast and staff in the Fairhaven Section of Saint Luke’s.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mildred’s memory may be made to the Gathering Place in St. John’s.
