Mildred Eleanor Macaulay Obituary
Macaulay, Mildred Eleanor (née Burke)
August 20, 1927 – December 14, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mildred Eleanor Macaulay,
daughter of the late Eva and Howard Burke, loving wife of the late Philip Macaulay (1992) and cherished sister of the late Norman (Grace) Burke.
Beloved mother of Deborah (Lance) Crump and Susan (Stanley) Hogenkamp. Proud
grandmother to Tara (Greg) Roberts, Andrea (Chris) Budd, and Sawyer Hogenkamp. Loving
great-grandmother to Lincoln Roberts, Scarlett Budd, Elizabeth Budd, and a special
grandmother to Jessica Dawdy. Mildred was also the adored maternal aunt of Donalda (William)
Dinsmore and Keith (Susan) Macaulay, and a treasured aunt to Sandra (Tony) Dimascio,
Howard (Deb) Burke, and Gordon Burke. She leaves behind a legacy of love among her many
nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
A dedicated professional, Mildred devoted her early career to Bunnell Hitchon Insurance as
Office Manager, where her ideas and diligence made a lasting impact. Beyond work, Mildred’s
love for her community was evident everyday. She was a proud member of the Order of the
Eastern Star, Telephone Pioneers, Heart and Stroke Pillow project, and always eager to lend
her time and talents to meaningful causes. She also served as librarian for the Brant County
Youth Singers and played an active role in Erie Presbytery for many years.
Mildred was strong in faith, and a devoted volunteer and trustee at St. Andrew’s Church, being
instrumental in their successful amalgamation with Wesley United Church. A lifelong member of
the United Church Women (UCW), Mildred spent countless hours answering phones, folding
bulletins, counting the collection, and providing admin support to the Church community she
loved. She was affectionately known as the “Knower of all Things” and the “CEO” of the Church.
Her time at Seasons Brantford, where she resided for nearly four years, was marked by the
cherished friendships she made with everyone there. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude
to the staff for their deeply compassionate care and support.
Mildred will be remembered as an iron lady, a devoted music lover, and a fierce advocate for
doing the right thing. She was independent to a fault, determined to live life fully, and an
inspiration to all who knew her. Her 97 years were a testament to her strength and love for
watching her family grow – never wanting to miss an important moment.
Family and friends will be received at the McCleister Funeral Home, 495 Park Road North, Brantford on Monday, December 23,2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Funeral service in the Chapel on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Mt.
