After a short yet brave battle with lymphoma, Michèle Joch (nee Cordahi) passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, at Juravinski Hospital surrounded by her family.
Michèle was the dear wife of the late John Joch for 49 years; loving mother to John, Anthony (Selena), Karen (John), and Monica (Stephane), and proud and loving Teta to Ethan, Emily, Peyton, Annabelle, Emma, Madeleine and Oscar. She is survived by her brother George and predeceased by her brother Charles and sister Magda.
Michèle immigrated to Canada from Egypt in 1967 after having received a degree in Chemistry & Physics from the University of Alexandria. She worked as a Chemical Lab Technician at McMaster University for nearly 20 years. Michèle had many passions and lived a very active life. She participated in yoga for many years as well as other classes at Sackville Senior Centre, including pilates & line-dancing. She also enjoyed travelling, flower arranging and swimming. Michèle was an active volunteer in the community, assisting at Grace Villa, knitting hats for newborns, and weaving sleeping mats for the homeless. Above all, Michèle loved doting on her grandchildren and was commonly known as “The Baby Hog”. She shared laughs with her children and grandchildren up until her last moments.
Thank you to all the amazing nurses & doctors who compassionately provided care for our mother in the Juravinski ER, C4 Hematology unit & ICU.
Visitors will be received at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home, 796 Upper Gage Ave (between Mohawk and Fennell) from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Friday December 27. A funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 620 Rymal Road E, at 10am on Saturday December 28, followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Michèle Joch to the Cancer Assistance Program would be appreciated.
God saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to be;
So he put his arms around you,
And whispered, “Come to me”.
With tearful eyes we watched you,
And saw you pass away;
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.
