Michael Ernest Joseph Landers, born March 13, 1942, to Hermon & Ernest Landers (both predeceased), passed away at Timmins & District Hospice May 1st 2024.
He is survived by his loving wife, Colleen (Clairmont) Landers of 59 years, his daughters Shelley (Murray)McGee, Lisa (James) Gazzola, and his son David (Peggy) Landers. His children were his pride and joy, providing him strength during rough times and consistent laughter and joy. He was immensely proud of his children and his family. His grandchildren Tyler McGee (Sarai), Trevor McGee (Leanna), Aaron Gazzola, Ava Gazzola, Michaela Landers (Adam), and Keeley Landers were his shining bright lights, filling him with joy and pride. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Michael loved his family and cherished the visits and time spent with them. He is survived by his sister Diane Cool, brother Donald Landers, and brother Allan (Elizabeth) Landers. He had a knack for making friends easily and loved to reminisce about the good old times and tell jokes.
Michael spent his entire life in Timmins, where he enjoyed participating in sports and excelled in tennis, broomball, baseball, darts, golf, and hockey. He began his career as a TV technician at Amstar Electronics before becoming a firefighter in January 1967 for the Timmins Fire Department, where he retired as a Captain in July 1998. He loved training his platoon and spent many hours preparing lesson plans. Michael was very handy and proficient in carpentry, plumbing, electricity, and building; he constructed our lovely home.
In retirement, he enjoyed playing golf and cherished the camaraderie with his golf buddies at the Spruce Needle Golf Club, where he played daily. He also enjoyed playing darts at the Dante Club and cribbage at the Moneta Recreation, where he maintained the fire extinguishers for years.
We thank all his friends and family for visiting, as well as the Oncology, Hospice, and Home Care staff.
The family will receive friends on Friday May 17, 2024 from 6:30 pm to 9 pm at LESSARD Funeral and Cremation Centre. A funeral service will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral on Saturday May 18th at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Michael can be made to Sports for Kids Timmins. Online condolences or donations can be made at www.lessardstephens.com
