Obituary
Peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of his family at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice (North Bay) on Thursday February 9, 2023, at the age of 80 years, after a short battle with cancer. Mervin was the beloved spouse of Carol Ellam for over 32 years, and the loving father to Julaine Dokis, Cameron Dokis, and Rachael Ellam-McDougall (Jody). He was the cherished grandfather to Jessica, Dariane, Owen, Mykai, Sakura, Jacob, and great-grandfather to Aubrey and Rosie. Mervin will be lovingly remembered by his sister Betty Dickson (Jim). He is predeceased by his brother Don Dokis and his parents Walter Dokis and Nellie (nee Stevens) Dokis. Mervin was best known as a fellow that was a real jokester and had a real gift of making people laugh. He also had a passion for hunting and fishing and anything outdoors. The family will be receiving visitors at McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Wednesday February 15, 2023, between the hours of 12pm to 2pm. A celebration of life will follow at 2pm in the McGuinty Funeral Home Chapel at 2pm. Cremation will occur after, along with A burial at the Dokis Cemetery at a later date. The family of Mervin wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the nurses, PSW’s and staff at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice for their never-ending care and compassion during the final stages of Mervin’s life.
