Merlen H. Geldart
1940-2024
Merlen Geldart, 83, of Hillsborough passed away
peacefully on October 10th, 2024 at the Moncton Hospital. He
was born in Prosser Brook on November 27th, 1940 the son of the late
Eldon and Mabel (Hayward) Geldart.
Merlen grew up in Prosser Brook where he learned how to
hunt and fish. Their family lived on the game they hunted
and it was a necessity for life. He and
his brothers became great providers as they trapped, hunted
and fished their whole lives. It was second nature to
them. All the boys were strong and could
handle anything that came their way. His first job
was working at the Gypsum Mill in Hillsborough. He was known
as the «Gentle Giant» by all the men and friends around
town. He then took a trade and was an Electro/Mechanical
Technician, he worked at several places over the years but retired
from G.N. Johnson Equipment.
Merlen met the love of his life, Carolyn (Butland) and the
two of them were married and started their family. He was a
role model for his children. He had a great faith in his
Lord and lived his life as a true Christian man. He and
Carolyn grew old together, losing her just over a year ago.
Merlen stayed strong and he still tried to enjoy his life and go on
for his family. He and his brother Vincent would
go on road trips and spend the days going to their old stomping
grounds in Prosser Brook. He bought a hunting bow and had an
awesome shot. He and Vincent showed the guy at Bass
Pro that the Old Guys still had it. He also enjoyed four wheeling
through the woods. Merlen got involved with the
Nursing Homes Without Walls and he really enjoyed the
program. He got to go out and socialize with all his friends
at the Surrey Valley Baptist Church. He and Carolyn were
active members of the church for several years where he helped with
the Stockades and other programs. He was a faithful man and
always put his faith in the Lord.
Merlen has left many memories for his family to
cherish. He felt blessed to have been able to watch his
grandchildren grow and was always excited to see them when they came
to visit, He had a special bond with his grandchildren and was a
wonderful Gramp to them all. Jessy and Hunter were fortunate enough to
live in the same house when they were small and see him
daily. He was so proud of all his family.
His son Todd and his wife Shawna continued to make
sure Merlen was included in all the special
occasions and holidays. Just this past September he
got to attend Jessy and Macayla’s wedding. He was
so proud to give them Carolyn’s Bible as a special something from her
to them, and was so excited about the arrival of their little
one in February.
Merlen lived his life using this as his
guide- God’s love is the compass that guides my
every step. His love is the anchor that keeps me grounded.
Walking hand in hand with God’s love fills my soul with peace. God’s
love is the greatest force in the universe, and it fuels my every
breath. He is now with his Heavenly Father and at
Peace.
He will be deeply missed by his daughter Juanita Curtis
(Darren King) of Keswick Ridge; son, Todd Geldart (Shawna) of
Hillsborough; his treasured grandchildren, Jessy (Macayla), Hunter,
Tyler, Kendra (Kaeto), Taylor (Jessica), step-grandchildren, Brittney

Tilley; brother Floyd Geldart (Marilyn), brothers-in-law,
