Merle Collin Millett
1941-2024
It is with profound
sadness that our family announces the passing of Merle Collin Millett,
83, on Monday, December 16, 2024, in the Valley Regional Hospital,
Kentville. Born June 30, 1941, in Halls Harbour, he was the son of the
late Barry and Elida (Misner) Millett. Merle lived most of his life in
Port Williams.
Merle is survived by
his wife of 63 years, Connie (Corkum); daughter Kimberlee Millett
(Phil Hendry); son, Trevor (Michele Byers); grandchildren, Asher and
Aviva Millett and Truman Hendry; brother, Randall Millett; sisters,
Sandra (Michael) Parker; Audrey (the late Casey) Ansems, and Candace
Taylor; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and
friends.
In addition to his
parents, he was predeceased by his eldest daughter, Michelle Millett;
his eldest granddaughter, Jessica Calnek; and sister, Alicia (the late
Vernon «Mort») West.
His working life
included several positions at Cyrus and Manning Ells Ltd., sales at
Hyline Chicks, Port William Agencies (farm equipment sales for the
Atlantic Provinces), and procurement at Canard Poultry. He was a
dedicated and gifted sportsman – playing hockey, soccer, softball, and
running cross country – and was a proud inductee of the Berwick Sports
Hall of Fame. He also coached softball and was a registered umpire for
many years.
He was a great fan of
country music, especially bluegrass. He was a Port Williams Volunteer
of the Year for ball field maintenance. Merle and Connie loved to go
on driving vacations and also enjoyed trips to England, Scotland, and
a European river cruise.
As per
Merle’s wishes, there will be a graveside service in the
spring. Donations in memory can be made to a charity of your
choice.
