Melva Sophie Belbin (nee Barrett), passed peacefully away in the presence of all her children, her brother Howard and niece Jennifer George, on December 14, 2024. At St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital. At the age of 80 years.
Predeceased by her husband: Wilfred Belbin; grandson: Shaun Downey; parents: Benjamin and Elizabeth Barrett (nee Hamilton); sister: Sadie Masters; brothers-in-law: Frank and Eli Belbin; sister-in-law: Margaret Belbin; parents-in-law: Simeon and Pearl Belbin; family friend: Pearl Smith; and infant sisters and brothers.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her sons: Enos Belbin (Barbara), Alvis Belbin (Renata), Scott Belbin; daughter: Sonia Downey (Stephen); grandchildren: Spencer Downey, Connor Belbin, Shamus Downey, Carter Belbin, and Lucy Belbin; brothers: Robert Barrett, Reuban Benjamin Barrett (Sheila), Howard Barrett (Ruby); sister: Martha Jean Collins; special home care worker: Jochebed (Naa) Sowah at Serenity Nursing and Home Support services. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great- great nephews.
Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Monday December 16 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service to take place on Tuesday, December 17 at 2:00pm from The Salvation Army St. John’s West Corps, Mundy Pond. Interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Blackmarsh rd. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Salvation Army St. John’s West Building Fund or YP department.
