MELLE VANDERWAL
On Thursday, January 4, 2024, our dear Melle Vanderwal was called home to be with our Lord, at the age of 99 years. Melle was born on February 29, 1924 at Terwispel, The Netherlands.
He is survived by Grace Van Niejenhuis (nee Talsma), his beloved wife of 23 years.
He was the loving father and father-in-law of Greta Eelkema Harsevoort (John+, Harry+), Grace Deputter (Andy+), Henny and Stephen Zylstra, Diane Vanderwal.
He was the dear Pake of grandchildren Jeff Eelkema, Wayne Eelkema (Tracey), Melle Vanderwal {Marjolein}, Sandy Heyink (Ray), Lisa Allen (Rob), Kim Postma (Jeff), Andy Deputter, Andy Veenstra (Shelley), Cindy Veenstra, Mike Veenstra (Lori), Sharlene Veenstra, as well as great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was the oldest of 6 brothers. Surviving are Wilco Vanderwal (Donna) and Harvey Vanderwal (Marie), and predeceased are Halbe (Aukje+), Stan (Evelyn+), John (Margaret, Dorothy+),
He was predeceased by his parents John and Geeske Vanderwal, by his beloved wife Anna (nee Houtman) after 49 years of marriage, and by his beloved wife Sadie Steegstra (nee Leystra) after 5 years of marriage.
He was also predeceased by sons John Vanderwal and Harry Vanderwal, grandchildren Jody Vanderwal and Wade Vanderwal, and great-grandson Joey Deputter.
Melle was a loving step-father/Pake to John and Margaret Van Niejenhuis, Louise and John Deelstra, Grace Van Niejenhuis, Sylvia and John Eelman, Annette Van Niejenhuis, William and Nancy Van Niejenhuis, David Van Niejenhuis, Gerald and Jacqui Van Niejenhuis, Buck and Ching Van Niejenhuis.
Visitation and funeral service will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 at the Clinton Christian Reformed Church on 243 Princess St E. Visitation from 11 am, until time of the funeral service from 12 to 1 pm, followed by a luncheon. A private interment service will take place at a later date.
If desired, a donation in memory of Melle to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
