Passed away peacefully at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, Picton Ontario
March 31st, 2024, at the age of 80.
Loving wife and soulmate of the late Paul Wesley McGill
Treasured partner of Paul McVicker
Cherished Mom to Brian (Jennifer), Scott (Lisa), and Paul Jr (Erin)
Wonderful Nanny/Nana to Hailey & Griffin, Noah & Josh, Macy Jane & Cash, and great granddaughter, Sasha.
Born March 4th, 1944 to Margaret & Hugh Brennen of Napanee . Caring sister to Hugh Jr.
Growing up a farm girl in the rural landscape of Napanee, Sue dreamt of the bright lights of the nearby city of Picton.
Quiet and shy by nature, her beauty soon had suitors lining up for a chance to whisk her away from small town life.
One such young man was Paul (Spur) McGill. A bit of a rogue by Napanee standards, he immediately swept young Sue off her feet,
asking her to a dance on their first date.
Oh, how she loved to dance! They shared their first kiss that evening in Paul’s 56 Chevy and so started a 44-year love affair.
Of course, they were married and subsequently moved to the place of her dreams and started a family.
Her prayers for 3 girls, Patricia, Leanne, and Paula were answered with the gift of 3 boys and those children became her world.
As the boys grew up, feeding them on one income proved impossible, so Sue took a job as a secretary at North Marysburgh Public School. As the grocery bills continued to grow (26 quarts of milk in one week) and the boy’s friends began to call their 49 Washburn Street home, Sue then moved into the world of banking as a teller at CIBC, for almost 2 decades.
If making and keeping friends was an Olympic event, Sue would have a gold medal. From childhood friends like Margie Holmes (75 years), to long time friends like the Stacey’s, Lockwood’s, and Weese’s (50 plus years), to work friends and new friends, she loved them all.
“You can never have too many friends”, she often said.
Writing poetry was a talent she had that few people knew about. A creative gift that allowed her to express emotion on paper
when the testosterone-filled household, got to be too much!
A well-known talent was her golf. She was the ladies club champion at 2 Golf courses, she played regularly into her 80th year,
and incredibly finished 2nd in the 2023 Wellington ladies club championship.
Always a fierce competitor, she hosted the McGill Masters Championship every year for herself and her 3 sons, sometimes fronting
her boys up to 10 strokes and yet still took home the hardware!
Sue lived a charmed life till the passing of her beloved Spur, but her strength and love of family and friends continued to shine through. With time she was able to move forward with her life and reach out to new people.
Paul McVicker was welcomed into the family and remained Sue’s loving partner for the last 12 years.
With him she was able to embrace her love of travel by visiting more than
over 70 countries around the world, enjoying a cottage on Lake Ontario, a winter home in Florida
and a wonderful community home in Wellington on the Lake.
Most recently her passion turned to her grandchildren. Watching them play hockey, soccer or baseball, or drawing and singing,
filled her with immense pride and gave her so much joy.

How lucky am I, that I have seen my children grow up and marry
Just yesterday you believed in Santa, ghosts and the tooth fairy
And now with children and wives of your own
I wonder where the years have flown
My life has been wonderful, with family and friends
My 3 boys have loved me and will to the end
This is one thing I’m so sure about
Never have I ever had any doubt
Raising boys is a challenge right from the start
But given the choice I would never part
With 3 wonderful sons, for 100 of the other
I have really loved being your mother
If I had one wish you might think me insane
I wish we could begin it all over again.
