Garry Mayor passed away peacefully on August 27, 2023, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie; son Jeffrey (Janet); grandsons Matthew and Nicholas; and many extended family members.
Garry was born on May 1, 1939, in Portage la Prairie, MB as the only child to Alice and Alfred Mayor, who predeceased him. He attended school in Portage La Prairie throughout his life and went on to work for the Manitoba Telephone System for 36 years. While assigned to work in northern Manitoba, he met the love of his life, Marj. Together they purchased a home in Flin Flon, MB, and began raising their only son, Jeff. The family moved together to Selkirk, MB, where Garry continued to work for MTS until his retirement in 1994. He and Marj decided they had had enough of Manitoba winters and moved to West Kelowna, BC to be with family and enjoy the beautiful scenery there.
In his retirement, he spent 14 years volunteering with the Westbank Food bank. He also looked forward to visits from his son and grandsons. Garry was a huge sports fan and loved watching the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the Winnipeg Jets, the Blue Jays, and curling on TV. He also never missed Coronation Street, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune.
Garry, we will miss you, but we know your pain is ended. You were so brave. We love you. Rest in peace. Until we meet again.
