Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Maxine G Battiste (nee Mushrow), announces her peaceful passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, NL on August 6th 2024, at the age of 86 years. Born in Port aux Basques, NL, Maxine was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Mushrow (nee Buffett). She was also predeceased by her loving husband, of 61 years, Ronald; her mother and father-in-law Thomas and Jane Battiste; brother Peter (Eliza); brothers and sisters in law Lewis, Joe, Raymond, Mable Willie, Bob and Mary.
She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, daughter Faith (David) Organ, son Rondald E (Joanne) Battiste; grandchildren Christopher (Betsy) Organ, Matthew Organ (Holly Downey), Kelsie (Jacques) Bottjer, Nicholas (Cydnie) Battiste; great-grandchildren Marcus, Charlie, Ophelia, Isobel and Stevie; brothers and sisters, Lloyd, Gary (Nancy), Daniel (Emma), and Wayne (Joan); sisters-in-law, Nina, Audrey and Marlene, brother in laws, Kevin, Gerard and Jerome, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.
Maxine was a strong independent woman, with a soft kind heart, whether she was hunting, berry picking, salmon fishing, dressed to the nines for a social event or helping someone in need, her presence was felt. She worked as an LPN, that she self taught though the mail schooling. She was very proud of her work whether it was playing music to make someone smile, to hold hands with the very sick or hold a new born baby. She wore her white uniform with so much pride and would be so please when anyone mentioned that she had helped them in the pass. She was very musical, although self taught, she could play anything she put her hands to. She also wrote many songs and recorded a CD with the Menopausal Mama’s. As well as playing and writing music, Maxine loved to dance and could certainly cut a rug. She will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at East Haven Funeral Home Inc. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 8th at 2 pm from St. James Anglican Church officiated by Rev. Jane Allen with internment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill, TCH, NL. Donations can be made in memory to the Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or Alzheimers Society.
