Obituary of MAXIMILIAN CHRISTIAN MAZUR
Max (Maximilian) Christian Mazur passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at the young age of 54 years.
He was predeceased by his mom and dad, Gladys and Ed (Spider) Mazur. Max is survived by his siblings, Mark (Maria), Roxana, Ramona (Nat), Joel (Cindy), Mace (Karen); and his nieces and nephews, Mackenzie (Corey), Mitchel, Cassidy, Gina, Cali, Joseph, Rebecca and Joshua.
Born in Winnipeg, he attended Christ the King School, Windsor Junior High and Glenlawn Collegiate. He went to the University of Prince Edward Island on a hockey scholarship. After returning to Winnipeg, he worked at Stony Mountain Corrections Institute as a Corrections Officer.
Raised in a busy happy household, he was indulged while being the youngest of six kids and had always maintained a close relationship with his mom and dad. His brother Mace was always stuck with him as the older siblings got to participate in more “grown up” activities, although, the others did enjoy keeping him in tow while out for some fun adventures.
Hockey was a constant theme with Max from a young age to adulthood. He was an avid Winnipeg Jets fan but you wouldn’t have known that when you walked into his home and saw all of the Montreal Canadian (Habs) memorabilia on the wall. Max was very proud of his dad’s hockey career.
Max was a large presence in the dressing room and we know many of his hockey buddies will miss that. It brings us peace to know that he was out enjoying time with good friends in the immediate days prior to his passing.
Max stayed connected with many close friends and was grateful for them all. Whether known from childhood, hockey, work, or other places, he appreciated them immensely and the positive influence they had on his life. He was a loyal friend. Max often put on a hard outer shell, but often showed his softheartedness underneath. He enjoyed travelling with his friends from golf adventures to trips to Vegas.
Max also enjoyed his time outdoors, with family and friends but especially with his dog Sam. He was always very proud of his nieces and nephews, making them laugh while hearing of their accomplishments. Any hug from Max was a bear hug and he always loved Cali’s “best hugs ever”.
Although a raised Catholic and truly a spiritual person, we all knew not to call him on Sundays when he was watching NASCAR. Max will be missed very much and was loved by us all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 5, 2023 (Max’s 55th birthday) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the St. Boniface Golf Club, 100 Youville Street, Winnipeg. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
If friends so desire, and in keeping with Max’s love of all animals, donations can be made to Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue.
