MacCORMACK, John Maxwell
We, the family of John Maxwell «Max» MacCormack, regret to announce his passing on Thursday, January 26, 2023, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born December 20, 1938, in Gabarus, he was a son of the late Murray and Effie (Ferguson) MacCormack.
Max started out working in garages for various car dealerships in the Sydney area before taking up the trade of drywall filler with Cape Breton Drywall. Later he traded in his drywall tools to finish out his career with Island Cabinet Shop, working there until 2014. Max was always the life of the party and always eager to make people laugh, or he would always get a laugh himself with the practical jokes or harmless scare tactics he practiced on his friends and family. Max loved fun and laughter, which he enjoyed plenty of during his 84 years with us. He will be dearly missed by the countless people whose lives he touched.
Max is survived by his wife, Arlene (Ferguson); daughters, Cathy (Trent) Byrne, Caribou Marsh and Cheryl (Doug) McKean, Georgetown, ON; grandchildren, Kelsey (Olin), Shelby (Jonathan), Cole (Melissa) and Alexandra; great-grandson, Oliver; two nephews, Kenneth Hasiuk and Murray Conn; one niece Laura Finlay: and grandpuppy, Rosco.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, Max was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Florence (John) Hasuik and Hilda (Raymond) Conn; and brother, Murray in infancy.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of 3B and the Cancer Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, as well as the VON and palliative team for their exceptional and compassionate care. A special thank you to Peggy and Ann Ferguson for all their support, kindness and compassion during this difficult time.
Words of Remembrance will take place at the Brookshaven Hall on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 4 p.m. with Rev Sheldon Chant followed by a Celebration of Life until 7 p.m. Interment will be held in Oakfield Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Cancer Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
