Obituary of Matthew Aceti
With heartfelt sorrow we announce the passing of our baby boy Matthew, surrounded by the love of his family at the Sault Area Hospital on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
Matthew will be terribly missed by his parents Marc Aceti (Amy) and Sandra Miceli (Dave). Heartbroken are his brothers and protectors Marc and Owen. Grandson of Gina Aceti (late Gino), Maria Miceli (late Luigi) and step-grandson of Mauricette Sist (late Rene). Nephew of Sue & Carlo Medaglia, Terry & Lina Aceti, Marisa & Dominic Nicoletta, Tina & Carmen Felice, Sam & Lisa Aceti, Rita Miceli & Mark Conway, Frank & Donna Miceli, and step-uncle of Phil Sist. Matthew will be missed by all of his cousins, his caregivers and friends.
Matthew was born with a major setback, but this never stopped him from enjoying his life while surpassing all doctors’ expectations.
Matthew attended Holy Family Catholic School where he was affectionally known as “Matty”. He moved on to St. Mary’s College in the GRACE Program where he spent 7 years and became very close to his caregivers and classmates. He waited for the school bus everyday, and his face lit up when he was greeted by his EA Mel and again off the bus by Jody.
Matty loved watching Dora the Explorer, listening to music, going for walks and going swimming but mostly enjoyed the affection and the love he received from family and friends. He loved to travel with his family traveling to Marineland, Wonderland, Disney World, Tampa Bay, Dominican Republic, Cedar Point, Michigan Adventures, Ann Arbour for Michigan Football Games and Wisconsin Dells. Matty was an avid supporter of his brothers and cousins whenever they had a sporting event and was well known around the rinks and fields because of his big smile and happy personality.
Matty’s journey in life was difficult. Along the way, he received a lot of help from many caring people and agencies. Special thanks to Home and Community Care, Thrive, Sick Kids Hospital and to the extraordinary people in his life that cared for him at home and school including Mel Boston, Jody Lavigne, Sherri Viotto, Marilyn Doherty, Shirley Yun and Carla D’Angelo.
Over the years, Matty had several hospital stays where he overcame the odds due to his strong will to live. At Sick Kids Hospital, he was known as the “Little Fighter” and to be “Tough as Nails”. This last hospital visit was a fight Matty could not overcome. He fought as hard as he could but ultimately Jesus decided he wanted him to come home. Many thanks to Dr. Booth for her empathy and compassion during the difficult times and all the nurses (especially Jeff, Mackenna and Mackenzie) on 3C at the Sault Area Hospital.
Friends and family may gather at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758) Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held at Holy Family Parish on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Boguslaw Jaroszek officiating. Memorial donations to the Sick Kids Foundation, Ronald McDonald House or the Twinkie Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
