Obituary of Matilda Agnes Murphy, Scotchtown
Born November 19th, 1932, to John C. and Edith (Munroe) Wilson in Scotchtown Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mom, grandmother and great-grandmother on February 11, 2023. Words can only begin to express how much she will be missed. Mother has always been guided by her strong Catholic faith and an inherent belief in the goodness in all people. This faith was instrumental in helping her deal with a stroke in September of 2015. Her prayer, humor and determination have been an inspiration to anyone lucky enough to have known her.
Mom was employed for over three decades at Schwartz of New Waterford on the front desk doing a job she loved.
Mom is survived by sons, Gary (Connie), Bobby (Laurie), Stanley, Roy (Tanya), Jim (Jennifer), only daughter, Sheila (Harold); sister, Margaret in Moncton, N.B.; grandchildren, Bernard and Stephen (Sarah) Murphy, Robert (Michelle) Murphy, Anne Marie (Adam) MacDonald, Crystal and Dawne (Terry Shave) MacLeod, Sean (Hannah) and Christian Murphy, Rachael Murphy, Jason (Shayla) Stobo and Meagan (Matthew) Reid; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Dawson, Zachary, Grace, Emily, Jessica, Willow, Calvin, Maria, Darcy, Abigail, Aden, and Olivia.
Mom was predeceased by husband, Evans Murphy; brothers, Harry, Jim and Albert «Ollie» and sisters, Patricia, May, Anna, and Florence.
She will be remembered for her incredibly giving nature (you may not have wanted all the items, but she made sure you kept them), her amazing determination (some might call it bossiness) and her wonderful sense of humor.
To no great surprise to anyone, her greatest pride in life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was an angel to many and will be sadly missed by everyone whose life she touched.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, with visiting hours on Wednesday, February 15, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in Union Grove Cemetery at a later date. A reception will be held at the KOC Hall, Plummer Avenue, immediately following the mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
Tillie`s family would like to thank the staff of 4B at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Mom during her time there.
Miss Me But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little–but not too long
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me–but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It’s all a part of the Master’s plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss Me–But Let me Go!
