Obituary of Mary Therese Roy
Mary Theresa Roy
Birth: June 1, 1935
Death: May 3, 2023
Tom and Liz are heart broken to announce the passing of their beautiful Mother on Monday May 3rd, 2023, at 1:47 am at the Greater Niagara General Hospital after a long and hard 5-month battle in hospital from suffering a stroke. She put up one heck of fight and we are so blessed to have had this additional time with her. We wanted more but it was time for her to get her wings and join the other angels in heaven and be with our Father who has been patiently waiting for her since his passing in 1995.
Born June 1st, 1935,in London Ontario, Mary Theresa Roy was affectionally known by many nick names, Mrs. Roy, Terri, Terry, Mary T, Mary Therese , Aunt Tese, Sissy, Mom, Mumsie, Mommy, Grandma, Grams, GMA
A true nurturer, a caregiver, a loving and forever devoted wife to her late husband Earl (1995) and amazing mother to her 2 children Thomas Franklin Roy (Adele) and her daughter Mary Elizabeth Roy. Dearly loved by her pride and joy and first-born grandchild, Callysa Alexandria Roy, her grandson Justin Deron French and her granddaughter Aliyah Elizabeth French. Mary Theresa was a loving sister to Lorraine Murphy, Patricia Hurst, Thomas Rastin and the late Loretta George. Also, a proud Aunt to many beautiful nieces and nephews.
Terri was a proud Registered Nurse who worked the start of her career at Linehaven (Home for the Aged) after graduating from Nursing School in Guelph, Ontario in 1958 and eventually retiring from her nursing career as a Special Procedures Nurse at the St. Catharines General Hospital. When she wasn’t working, she was really, always working helping to run the family business with her husband at 399 Ontario Street- Nortown Motor Sales. Everyone that new Earl knew Terri was never too far behind, answering the forever ringing telephone, balancing the books, doing the bank deposits, payroll, she even pumped gas and checked oil and washed windshields when the workers didn’t show up or her husband needed help “out front” when he was busy working on a vehicle that was in the shop. Terri was even known to sell a car or two! All back in a time when it was not the norm to see a woman in these roles, Terri didn’t care what people thought because she knew that every act of hard-work she delivered was because of her determination to provide for her family. Terri juggled seamlessly her devotion to raising her children and grandchildren all the while handling every other obstacle that came her way. No job was too big or too small and the answer was never NO. She loved to spoil her children and grandchildren.
Whether dressed in blue jeans, a bathing suit or an evening gown Mary Therese was always poised with grace and beauty, after all she was one of the four Rastin girls from Port Dalhousie!
Thank- you Mom for all you did and all the lives you touched you will never be forgotten. Someone said the reason you hurt so much when you lose someone is because you were blessed to have been loved so much. A mother’s love is always with her children and losing you is one of the deepest sorrows our hearts can know. Her goodness, her caring and her wisdom live on like a legacy of love that will always be with us.
Please join the family on Sunday May 7th 2023 at George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carleton Street, St. Catharines for a visitation from 2 pm – 4 pm .
