BACON, Mary Teresa
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Terry Bacon peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre Palliative Care with her family by her side on May 6th. Predeceased by her loving husband Jack, cherished mother to Janelle (Bill) Carey, Julie (Pat) Logan and Jennifer Bacon. Beloved Nanny to Amanda (Trevor) Roy, Jon (Agatha) Carey, Joe (Ashley) Logan, Danielle (Kyle) Heffernan, Jack Logan, Madelyn, and Rachel Mowry. Great Nanny to Rory and Carter Roy, Finn Logan and Callaghan and Mae Carey.
Born on October 11, 1931, in Codrington, Ontario. Terry grew up on the family farm with her parents Edward and Anne Houlihan and her siblings Ellen Cotter, Harriett (Ab) Machuk, Janet Dorris, Paul (Marietta) Houlihan and Anne Houlihan. Predeceased by her adored sister Sheila Campanaro, brother Francis Houlihan, brother-in-law’s Jim Cotter, Jim Dorris and Joe Campanaro. Terry had an incredibly strong connection with her siblings that was heartwarming, her eyes would light up sharing memories of time spent with them.
Aunt Terry will also be sadly missed by all her wonderful nieces and nephews.
She started teaching at the very young age of 17 and she is still fondly remembered by many previous students. She had a great passion and enthusiasm for teaching primary students the fundamentals of reading, which gave her incredible pride in her accomplishments.
Terry endured incredible hardship throughout her life, losing her husband Jack at age 39 forcing her to be a single parent to three young daughters but her faith and family support pushed her through life’s challenges with astounding inner strength, resilience, and dignity.
Her grandchildren have such fond memories spending time at her house, her living room transformed into an arts & crafts center with all the kid’s shows always available to watch, she was ahead of her time taping all her favourite TV shows, she had a full library of VHS tapes. Always the teacher, she would also spend hours teaching theW grandchildren to read. Terry loved to play the piano and had many singalongs in her classroom with her students and at home with all her family around.
Terry has suffered for many years with ill health but was determined to be independent. Her strong faith has guided her throughout her life journey and provided great solace in the past few years, giving her the strength and perseverance to keep going. She had an incredibly sharp mind and could walk you through daily current events like no other, we always thought she missed her calling as a newscaster or political correspondent.
Her best loved times were spent with her three daughters going out for dinner and all the family get togethers filled with endless laughter reminiscing about memories gone by and making new ones.
Terry was loved by so many, and it was evident with her recent time spent in the hospital with the outpouring of love and support. She even had many nurses come in from different floors to say that she was their favourite teacher.
Everyone who knows Terry will deeply miss her empathy, wit and compassion for others, her bright light will shine forever in all our hearts.
Janelle, Julie and Jen would like to send special thanks to Dr. Mallory, Dr. Webster and all the incredible nurses at Peterborough Regional Palliative Care for their compassion, and outstanding care, you are truly angels.
Friends will be received at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 PM. Parish Prayers at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at ST. ANNE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 859 Barnardo Ave Peterborough at 10:30 AM. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Highland Park Reception Centre.
