Mary Jean Krutop (nee Collyer) passed away on January 14, 2023. She spent her childhood in Alberta and was always close with her siblings: Leona, Jim, Kathy, Marg, Leila and Georgina. Mary Jean met Loyd and they were married in 1953. They moved to the Vancouver area and raised a family of three boys; Sydney, Ricky and Randy. After Loyd’s passing in 1976 Mary Jean worked as a legal secretary, until her retirement in 2000. Since she retired, she enjoyed her life in Vancouver. Mary Jean always lived in a simple apartment and never needed much to be happy. She traveled quite a bit and enjoyed the city life and she particularly enjoyed spending time in Stanley Park. She was close with her sons and her grandchildren and she was fortunate that she got to know her great grandchildren over the past 16 years. Gramma Jean loved them all. While Mary Jean enjoyed her independent lifestyle in the big city, she struggled with her health in the past few years. She moved to Kamloops in 2022 to be closer to her family and was surrounded by her loved ones in her final days.
Mary Jean is survived by her oldest son Sydney, her seven grandchildren: Kristofer, Jeremy, Jonathan, Matthew, Alicia, Patrick and Phillip; and 13 great-grandchildren. Mary Jean was predeceased by her eldest grandson Jayson (1973), her husband, Loyd (1976), her son Ricky (1989) and Randy (2014). Also sadly missed by her sisters and brother: Jim Collyer, Kathleen Lewis, Marguerite Crowley, Leila West, Georgina Layden and their spouses. She was also predeceased by her parents George and Mary Collyer and her sister Leona Erickson(2020).
The family is grateful to the staff at Gemstone for making Mary Jean’s last months as comfortable and positive as possible. A private service will be held for close family in the Spring of 2023.
