It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Mary-Ellen Rogers. A fierce and unforgettable spirit who touched the lives of many in her 49 years. Now reunited with her brother Chris, who left us in 2023. Mary-Ellen leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and resilience.
She is survived by her devoted spouse of 30 years, Joaquim «Joe» Caixeiro, and is the loving mother to Brett and Marissa. Mary-Ellen was the cherished daughter of Greg and Elaine Rogers, a beloved sister to Janice and Jim Bondy, and Michael Rogers, as well as a sister-in-law to Ilidia and Elisio Silva. She was a treasured daughter-in-law to Joaquim and the late Quiteria (2023). Mary-Ellen was also a proud aunt to many, including Jimmy (Christina) Bondy, Jessica (Shawn) Byrne, Stephanie Rogers, Tiffany (Austin) Silva, and Ricardo Silva, and she adored her six great-nieces and nephews. Mary-Ellen was a wonderful fur parent to her beloved puppy, Tyson.
She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins and her extensive circle of friends.
Mary-Ellen was a well-known and respected bartender for more than 20 years, creating lasting connections at various establishments throughout Es County. Her final landing spot was at Colchester Bar and Grill – which quickly became her second home and her coworkers became family. Her bold demeanor and lively spirit captivated the community – If Mary-Ellen had something to say, everyone listened; her words commanded respect and admiration.
When not behind the bar, Mary-Ellen enjoyed quiet evenings at home with Joe, Tyson, and family, often enjoying true crime documentaries or favorites like Cold Case Files and Unsolved Mysteries. When the mood struck, she would light up the bar with her karaoke performances, passionately singing along to her favorite tunes.
Behind her fiery and bold personality, was a heart of gold. Mary-Ellen was fiercely loyal and would go to the ends of the earth for those she loved. She had an extraordinary ability to lend a helping hand, often giving the shirt off her back to those in need. Most of all, Mary-Ellen was a fighter. She fought a long battle with Type 1 diabetes, which she faced bravely for 40 years. She never allowed it to define her; she approached life with determination and grit, never letting it slow her down or dampen her spirit.
In honor of Mary-Ellen’s legacy, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or a charity of your choice. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A celebration of life will take place in the new year. Arrangements entrusted to Families First – Amherstburg.
