Mary «Catherine» (Fewer) Saunders, 84, passed away
on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 in Grand View Manor, Berwick with her
daughters by her side. Born in Woods Island, NL, she was a daughter of
the late Gordon and Sarah Fewer.
Catherine spent much of her early life in Newfoundland, she
later moved to Nova Scotia over 50 years ago to raise her family. She
never forgot where home was, over the years she took her children on
many trips to Newfoundland.
Catherine enjoyed camping and travelling, she was a member of
the High Tide Drifters Camping Club, taking her camper and joining her
fellow campers on many trips. She loved taking her grandchildren on
camping trips and made sure that every one of them had a chance to go
with her. Catherine and her late husband Marven spent 20 years as
snowbirds, wintering in Florida. Catherine was a woman with a great
sense of humour, and she was always fun to be around.
Catherine’s favourite thing to do was clean, she
kept her home in meticulous shape. She was also known for baking
wonderful homemade bread, be it white, brown or raisin. She also
enjoyed making toutans, a traditional fried bread from Newfoundland.
Catherine was a generous woman; she opened her home on multiple
occasion for seniors who needed care at the end of their
lives.
Catherine is survived by her loving daughters, Donna (Ken)
Degaust and Sherry (Glen) Ward; sons, Christopher, Kevin
(Amanda) and Mark; siblings, Ned (Margaret), Mart (Dot), Jack, Terry
(Jeanette) and Angela (Emilio); grandchildren, Leonard, Sarah, Evan,
Joey, Stephanie, Kate, Hailey, Cassandra, Taylor, Jordan and Maury;
great-grandchildren, Addilyn, Lily, Mia, Rowan, Alexavier and Aubrey;
her beloved Shih Tzu, Prince; as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
Marven Saunders; daughter, Rowena; brothers, Mike (Tilly), Ronald,
Gerard and sister-in-law Lorraine, Nat (Pauline); and grandson,
Wesley.
The family would like to thank the staff at Grand View Manor,
for taking such good care of Catherine in her final
year.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by
request. A funeral service will be held at in the Waterville Baptist
Church, Kings County with the date to be announced.
Donations in memory may be made to Grand View Manor.
