On this beautiful spring day, May 22nd, 2023, our beautiful and loving mother, grandma, great grandma, sister, and friend left this world for the next, surrounded by her true loves in life, her family and in her own home as she wished. Our mother and grandma has left a beautiful legacy starting with her three devoted and loving children, Michelle (David) McMahon, Kevin (Karen) Orr, and Rebecca (Ken) Orr. Being a grandma (aka Grammy) was one of her greatest joys! She will be deeply and forever missed and loved by Elizabeth (Alex) McMahon, Patrick (Paula) McMahon, Connor (Candice) Orr, and Molly (Will) Orr. The last couple years our mother was able to experience the joy and excitement again of having a “wee one” in the family when our treasure Oliver made her a great grandma (aka Gram). She never thought she would see the day and she did… 507 days to be exact. Mom and Dad married in April 1953, and bravely immigrated to Canada in 1956 for opportunity, and to raise their future family. Mom stayed connected with her family in Northern Ireland through trips home, phone calls, and letters over the years. She was blessed with two siblings whom she loved despite the distances, Agnes Tibbs (predeceased), and her younger brother Billy Brown. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins as well. Mom will be reunited with her parents William and Maisie Brown (predeceased). We also take great comfort in knowing that our Dad, Tom Orr (predeceased) was there to welcome our mom with open arms. When our parents immigrated to Canada, they created some very special friendships who became family. Elsie Gordon (predeceased), James McGill (predeceased), Bob and Margaret Hollier (predeceased), and our special “cuz” Brian Docherty. Mom had the love and support of not only her family, but her circle of friends. From travel, (mis)adventures and years of volunteer work with her beloved best friend, Kathy Miller. There were monthly get togethers and parties with the “Happy Gang”. Thursday night cards with the girls. Getting dolled up for Red Hat gatherings. Mom leaves this earth having made an impact that will never be forgotten. The family would like to share their gratitude for the compassionate care given by dear friend Lori Goldblatt, Dr. Ivanova and her team at the family practice in Dundas, and Dr. Talman and the Internal Medicine team at General Hospital. Lastly, two exceptional nurses, Thea and Xiaoping at the General Hospital who supported us to bring our mom home as she wished. Mom made some very brave decisions in the last several years of her life and made her final wishes and arrangements known to the family. What a true gift for us! So as per her wishes, cremation has taken place and we will be celebrating her life and sharing memories at Circle of Life Cremation and Burial Centre, 100 King Street East, Dundas, on Thursday, June 1st, 2023, 12 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. (additional parking at the Air Force Club).
Privately following the Celebration of Life the family will be interring both our parents remains at Grove Cemetery in Dundas. Mom was a long time supporter of the following charities which the family would appreciate donations to in lieu of flowers: SPCA of Hamilton, Salvation Army, Mission Services, McMaster Children’s Hospital and Cancer Assistance Program (CAP).
