YONEMITSU, MARY ANN
Passed away on January 3, 2023 at the age of 83.
Beloved wife of Joe. Loving mother of Jennifer and husband Hans, Steven and wife Tina, and Nori. Cherished grandmother of Carly, Tai, Jordyn, JoJo, Eric, Akimi and Natalie. Dear sister of Marcia, Donna and Debbie. Predeceased by her sister Nancy.
Mary Ann was born in British Columbia to parents, Naka and Sokichi Murakami. She moved to Montreal, Quebec then Toronto, Ontario. Shortly after her marriage to Joe, she moved to Kitchener/Waterloo where she raised her family of 3 children. She was a successful realtor, and enjoyed cooking, skiing, tennis, gardening, golfing and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.
Married to her best friend Joe for 58 years, the two were a true example of dedication and love. Whether it was golfing, parenting or visiting with family and friends, they did all things together and with a united heart. They respected, trusted and supported each other for better or worse until Joe’s passing in December, 2021.
As a mother of three children, Mary Ann worked tirelessly to make family life fun. She organized and chauffeured to countless extracurricular activities, and even handmade Halloween costumes. She was the listening ear, family nurse, gourmet chef, and so much more. Always there, always providing, always supporting.
Mary Ann found great joy in her role as a grandmother and loved her visits with her 7 grandchildren. She was always thinking of her grandkids, cheering them on, planning and preparing for their visits with favourite foods, thoughtful gifts and cookies at the ready. Everyone looked forward to visits and celebrations with Grammy.
With a deep appreciation for nature and all things beautiful, Mary Ann enjoyed gardening and planting her annual flower boxes. She especially loved cooking with vegetables and herbs grown from her own garden. Cooking was a passion for Mary Ann and she took pride and found great joy in creating delicious, beautifully presented meals for her family and friends.
We are heartbroken by Mary Ann’s passing and will be forever grateful to her for showing us how to live happily and successfully, and for reminding us of the beauty in life. Whenever we see the flowers bloom, we will remember her warm hugs and bright smile.
