Mary Ann
(Kenny) Wood – Auld’s Cove,
NS
It is
with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Mary
Ann (Kenny) Wood on January 28, 2023 at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home
in Antigonish. Mom was born on December 9, 1925 in Caledonia Mills to
the late John and Johanna (Rogers) Kenny.
Mom was a
graduate of Normal Teachers College in Truro, NS. Her first teaching
job took her to Cape George and in 1949, she moved to Auld’s
Cove where she taught until she started her family. After having
raised her family, mom returned to teaching at Havre Boucher
Consolidated School where she remained until she retired in 1987. Mom
was a devote Catholic and a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Mulgrave.
She was a member of the CWL and recently received a pin in recognition
of her 65-years of service.
Mom was a
passionate traveller. She was always ready for a car trip, especially
when she got the front seat! She enjoyed trips to Cuba and Florida,
but especially enjoyed her trip to Ireland and a cruise through the
Caribbean. As much as mom loved travelling, she was always ready to go
back home. She cherished having her children and grandchildren visit,
and regardless of whether you stayed 5 minutes or 5 days, it was never
long enough for mom. She would coax you to stay for just one
‘little toddy’ or a game of crib. Speaking of
crib, she could be known to «stretch her count», especially
if she was going to beat one of her
son-in-laws.
Mom is
survived by her sons Hysie, Auld’s Cove, Danny (Susan),
Havre Boucher, Hugh (Tina), Magdalen Islands, grandson Shaun (Kelly),
Edmonton and her daughters Joan (Cyril) Campbell, East Havre Boucher,
Debbie (Pat) O’Leary, Frankville, Doreen (Ambrose)
MacDonald, Afton, Diane (Jerome) Pettipas, Hatchet Lake, Kathleen
(Mike) Gerard, Greenhill, Jacqueline, South River, Sharon (Daren)
King, Pomquet, Denise (Robert) Wood, Fort McMurray, 30 grandchildren,
48 great grandchildren, and 6 great- great grandchildren. Mom is also
survived by her brothers Gerard (Rhonda), Windsor ON, Gary (Sharon)
Fall River, Jerome (Linda), Antigonish, her sisters Rose (late Pat)
Bork, Genevieve (late John) Mackley, Kathleen (late Tom) Cahill, all
of Halifax. She is also survived by sister- in -laws Ida Kenny,
Toronto and Beth Kenny, Midhurst, ON.
Mom was
predeceased by her husband John E. (Jackie) Wood, her brothers Dan
(late Isabel), Hughie, John, Charlie, Archie Duncan (A.D.) Doug, and
sisters Annie Kenny, Marion (late Bob) Martin, her grandson J.L.
O’Leary and her great grandson Jaxon MacDonald, her
parents-in-law Johnny and Jessie (MacAskill)
Wood.
The
family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the R K
MacDonald Nursing Home for the compassionate care given during the
past few months where mom was a resident of Tanglewood and
Martha’s.
