Obituary of Martin Pitts
It is with utter dismay and shock that we announce the sudden passing of Martin Leo Pitts of Saltsprings. Martin passed over to the riverbank in the sky on October 20, 2023. He was the son of the late Betty Joyce Pitts (Riverton).
Martin is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Jean Pitts (Saltsprings), his loving daughter Beth Cummings (Matt) of Westville, and his adored sons Martin Pitts Jr (Jackie) of New Glasgow, Tony Pitts (Michelle) of Vale Road; loving grandchildren who will miss him dearly Dylan, Mackenzie, Kelsey, Logan, Marcus, Sophie, Gabriel, and Elijah; his chosen sons Chris Pitts (Courtney) of Alma, Charles Pitts (Crystal) of Westville and Alex Pitts of Mt Thom.
He is also survived by his baby brother and best friend, Jason (Cynthia) Pitts of Mt Thom, and older brother Cliff (Anying ) Pitts of Fredericton, and his sisters Jean (Norm) McComb of New Glasgow, Kathy (Ebbie) Wilson, of Trenton .
Martin was a hard working man all his life, doing anything that was needed to provide for his family. He worked on the farm for many years, mowing the fields and milking the cows. Martin was the department manager for Sobeys and Foodland for a number of years before franchising his own Canada Bread Run.
Marty had a deep passion for anything associated with the woods, especially hunting and fishing. He loved to pack up the bikes and go for a day long ride on the four-wheeler, or plow snow in his tractor or anything else that allowed him to spend time outdoors. Martin always enjoyed sharing these passions with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews or anyone else who showed interest. Martins pride and joy was his family. He made sure he spent time playing cards, board games, swimming, or having campfires. He was always planning family dinners, or BBQ’s or camping trips. Martin was passionate about preserving important family heirlooms and ensuring they continued to be passed on for generations.
Marty was the first person to come to lend a hand to anyone, be it gyprocking, sharing wild game out of his freezer or donating bread off his truck. Martin was everyone’s first call if they had a question or needed advice. Martin was cherished by all who knew him.
Martin is predeceased by his younger brother Christopher Pitts, his chosen father (inlaw) BIll Oulette and mother-in-law Tilly Ouellette, and his cousin and hunting buddy Allan Sherman, Cousin Darlene Cake and Cousin Freddie Cake.
Family flowers only, donations can be made to Pictou County Forest School .
There will be a small private viewing and a private family service as per his wishes. The family will plan a celebration of life at a later date.
