Martha Jraije Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Martha Jraije on June 28, 2024 at the age of 81 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Martha was born in 1943 in Tourza, Lebanon to parents Sarkis and Barbara Diab. At the age of 9 she relocated to Sydney, Australia with her family, returning to Lebanon 14 years later and meeting the love of her life, Sarkis Jraije. Marrying in 1966, she soon returned to Australia with Sarkis for two years and welcomed their first child there before joining many family members in Canada, hoping to build a better life. Martha worked hard for the majority of her life to ensure her family was provided for. She and Sarkis took grueling jobs at various farms to support their new family before she landed a permanent position at H.J. Heinz Company, retiring in 2004. Above all else, the job she was most proud of was motherhood, raising her children and caring for seven beautiful grandchildren throughout her life. Over the years Martha nourished her growing family, devoted to a life of faith in God and selflessly serving others even in turbulent times. Martha’s sweet and giving nature was enjoyed by all who came into contact with her in and out of work. Family and friends would never leave her home hungry as she took great joy in cooking and feeding everyone. Martha was also a bonus mother to her in laws. She accepted and loved them as her own, welcoming them with open arms and would do anything to see them smile. Her loss leaves an emptiness deep in our hearts that will never be filled yet we take solace in the knowledge that Martha has been lifted up to Heaven by the loving hands of her two sons, Tony and Max, who were called home to the Lord at a very young age. They are now reunited with their beloved mother, nestled in her warm embrace. Martha is predeceased by siblings Antonious, Boutros, and Maroun and is survived by her brother Diab (Dennis), her loving husband of 57 years Sarkis, children Rose (Yaacoub Youssef), Peter (Melissa) and Tony (Kimberly), dear grandchildren Sydney, Jordan, Matthew, Nina, Max, Evelyn and Izabelle whom she loved profoundly.
The family would like to thank the staff at Erie Shores HealthCare in Leamington for their care and support during this difficult time. In Martha’s memory, the family will be accepting cash donations for families in need in Lebanon. Visitation will be held at Reid Funeral Home, 14 Russell Street, Leamington (519-326-2631) on Monday July 1, 2024 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Maronite Church, 280 Talbot Street East, Leamington, on Tuesday July 2, 2024 at 10am. Burial to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
