On July 26th, Marshall Holdstock passed away peacefully in Montney where he was cared for and surrounded by family.
Marshall was a man of integrity and ingenuity. His faith called him to a life of missions, where he was able to put his many talents and aptitudes to use.
Marshall and his late wife, Jean came to Canada from England in 1962 to live among the Dane Zaa people of the Doig River First Nation. Together, they learned the language and developed the alphabet and orthography for what was then only a spoken language. They archived a curriculum as well as scripture translations, bringing the words of Jesus to the Dane Zaa in their mother tongue.
Their work touched innumerable lives as they became enmeshed with the people of the community. The friendships they forged lasted a lifetime.
Marshall’s life will be honoured where his heart called home: at Doig among friends and family.
Please join us in celebrating Marshall’s life at 2pm on Saturday, August 10th, 2024 in the Dane che’ adliih dę’ kwą (Peoples Prayer House), at Doig River First Nation.
A luncheon and time of sharing will follow.
