Marlene Wilhelmina Scheerer passed away peacefully at Chartwell Parkhill Nursing Home on March 3, 2023.
Marlene is predeceased by her husband Ken in 2004, sister Thelma Barnhardt and brothers-in-law Fred Barnhardt, Bryan Gingerich and Ray Stock. She is survived by her brother Allan Zinn, sister Audrey Freeman and husband Ron Freeman and sisters-in-law Carolyn Stock and Lorainne Gingerich.
She is also survived by five children, Debra and John Gill, Douglas and Dennise Scheerer, Dale and Patti Scheerer, David and Julie Scheerer, Dan and Janice Scheerer. She has 12 grandchildren; Tara and Tommy Giurukis, Melissa and Shawn Hinds, Josh Scheerer, Adam and Carolina Scheerer, Amy and Andrew McLaughlin, Nikki Scheerer, Jonathan Gill and Danielle Benoit, Luke and Lesley Scheerer, Andrew and Jessica Gill, Nick Scheerer, Megan Scheerer, Victoria Scheerer. She also is survived by 9 great grandchildren.
Marlene was born and raised on a farm in North Easthope and when she married, continued to live on a neighboring farm with her husband Ken. She had a passion for gardening, painting, quilting and music. She was baptized, married and baptized all of her children at St Peter’s Lutheran church in Gads Hill where she was a faithful member of the choir and LCW. She was also an active member of the Women’s Institute and Stratford Fall Fair Board.
Following the death of her husband in 2004, Marlene lived close to her daughter in the Grand Bend community. She continued to sing in a choir and participate in the life and work of Huron Shores United Church.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Marlene’s life at St. Stephens Anglican Church, 133 Home St. Stratford, on April 14, 2023 at 3 pm with a one-hour informal visitation prior. Interment and reception to follow.
