It is with heavy hearts that the family of Marlene Donna Mary Hogarth announce her passing on March 13th at Mt Sinai Hospital while bravely battling ALS with her daughters by her side.
Marlene was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay but moved to Toronto to be closer to her two daughters. She was a devoted member of her community, and her passions included being at camp with family on Lake Superior, discussing politics, always making room in her home for stray animals, and anyone looking for a political conversation or a shoulder to lean on.
Marlene’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a loving mother to Mary (Fritz) and Christine (Paul) and an extremely proud grandmother to Max. Marlene was predeceased by her loving husband William (Bill), her son William (Willy), her parents Wilbert and Mary Arthur, her brother and sister-in-law Paddy and Marilyn Arthur, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Jean Lockwood, as well as her nephew Johnny Lockwood and niece Jan Hughes. She is survived by her brother Robert Arthur (Francine), her sisters Christine Lod (Byron) and Catherine Arthur, her beloved nieces and nephews Tamara, Beau, David, Elizabeth, Devin, Ryan, Adam, Alexander, Susan, Harley, and their families. Marlene will be sadly missed by her best friend and cousin Berma.
Marlene was a faithful member of St. John’s Anglican Church, past president of the Thunder Bay Museum, Member of Eastern Star and took on many political leadership roles both provincially and locally with the Thunder Bay Superior North PC and Conservative Riding Associations. She also volunteered on numerous political campaigns across the province. Marlene’s kindness, positive outlook and always having a muffin and a coffee ready for anyone who dropped by will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to attend Marlene’s funeral service on Wednesday, March 22nd, at 11am at St. John’s Anglican Church (Thunder Bay). Marlene’s life will also be celebrated in Toronto at the Albany Club at 6pm on March 28. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ALS Society or the Thunder Bay Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
Marlene will be desperately missed by all those that she’s left behind. Our hearts are so broken by this unexpected loss. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
