Mark Craft Obituary
Mark Alexander Craft passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024 in his 71st year, with his loving wife Kate at his side at the QEII hospital in Halifax Nova Scotia.
Mark was predeceased by his parents George and Dorothy Craft (nee Edwards). He was their second son and was born in Stratford Ontario.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Kate Ashby-Craft, brother Cameron and his wife Mary Lou, sister Miriam and her husband Guy Wittig. He is also survived by his niece Becky and her husband Jason Holmes their children Tyler and Jakob, his nephew Christopher and his partner Jennifer Stuckless their children River and Greyson, his nephew James and wife Elise their children Holden and Calder, his niece Abby and her husband Ian Lee their children Eliana and Remy, his niece Christine and her husband Paul Ballantyne their children Leena and Nolan.
Mark attended Hamlet public school, King Lear senior public school, Northwestern and Central high schools. After graduating high school, he attended Ryerson University in Toronto and graduated with a degree in Hotel Management.
After graduation Mark went to Edmonton and was the food and beverage manager for the Edmonton Plaza Hotel for 3 years. Later Mark moved to Calgary as the assistant front desk manager of the Four Seasons Hotel there. After the Four Seasons Hotel he returned to Stratford as the dining room manager of the Church Restaurant. Next Mark partnered with two chefs at the Keystone Alley Café. Later he put together a team to purchase the Church Restaurant and was an owner/manager for the next 28 years. He then went on to manage various food and beverage establishments in Southwestern Ontario.
Although busy in food and beverage industry, Mark found time to serve on many boards of directors and advisory groups such as: the Stratford Festival board of governors, the Stratford Summer Music Board of Governors, the Quilt Project for Breast Cancer survivors and an Ontario Hydro advisory committee.
Mark has touched and enriched the lives of more than his family mentioned above, he was loved and will be truly missed.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2024
at Cruikshank Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax NS, B3K 5C9
