It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Marion Marie Mayo (Walsh) of Creston South announces her passing. Marion passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center in Burin on Friday, June 9th, 2023, at the age of 77, with Stuart and Vanesa by her side.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are her husband Ernest of 47 years; son Stuart & daughter-in-law Vanessa Mayo; sisters, Lucy Tourout of Stephenville, Phyllis (Ivan) Sheppard of Marystown; brothers, Jerome (Joan) Walsh of Marystown, Ray (Betty) Walsh of Marystown, Dermont Walsh of Nova Scotia, and Glenn (Evelyn) Walsh of Marystown; sisters-in-law, Betty Hodder of Nova Scotia, Sue Mckinnley of Ontario, and Mary Mayo of Marystown; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; lifelong friend, Geraldine Kelly; a large circle of nursing friends that she worked with for years; special friends, Bonne & Wade White of Trout River (Vanessa’s parents); a large circle of camping friends from Kona Beach; special homecare workers who were like family, Roxanne Power and Janice Tapper; her special furry friends, Bella and Bucky; plus a large circle of extended family and friends. Special thanks to the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center, The Palliative Care Association, The Health Sciences Center, and Daffodil Place.
Marion was predeceased by her parents, Douglas & Maude Walsh of Marystown; father-in-law, Ernest Mayo; mother-in-law, Gladys Mayo Cleal (Joe) of Marystown; baby sister, Margaret Walsh; brothers and sisters-in-law, Levi Hodder, Donald Mckinnely, Melvin Mayo, Randell Mayo, Kenneth & Marion Mayo, and Anne Walsh; niece Natasha Connolly; nephews, Winston Hodder, Baby Phillip Dermont Walsh.
Throughout her lifetime, Marion found joy in the simple things. In the early years she worked as a teacher in Fox Cove, then Worked as a Registered Nurse at many different locations for the remainder of her career. Marion loved spending time with Ern, Stuart, Vanessa & the rest of her family and camping was her favourite during the summer months. She enjoyed every minute of it and would reminisce of those days often.
Anyone who knew Marion would tell you that she was the kindest and most thoughtful person you’ve met. Her patients while nursing were never patients, they were always treated like family. Marion lived wholeheartedly. Being with her family brought her such immense joy, even to her last days, and her face would light up when they visited. They have many memories together and her love and big personality will live on through.
In keeping with Marion’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
The Mayo Family will be accepting visitors at Peninsula Funeral Home on
Monday, June 12th, 2023 from 10:00am – 12:00pm, 2:00 – 4:00pm, and 7:00pm – 9:00pm.
Funeral Service will take place at Calvary United Church, Creston South on Tuesday, June 13th, 2023 at 2:00 pm.
Inurnment to follow at the United Church Cemetery, Creston South.
In Marion’s memory donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Society, The Daffodil Place or to a charity of one’s choice.
