Marion’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Marion Alice (Corey) Kirkpatrick. Marion was born to Evelyn and Clifford Corey in Fredericton on March 26, 1937. She is predeceased by her parents and her sister Margaret Jean, and survived by her brother David Corey (Edna), children Tim Kirkpatrick (Faye) and Krista MacInnis (Paul), granddaughters Marta MacInnis, Marnie Allain, and Raquel MacInnis, and loving husband Howard Kirkpatrick.
Marion grew up in Southampton in a tight-knit family. Her passion for helping others began at the Victoria Training School for Nurses in Fredericton, where she met many of her lifelong friends. It was also during this time that she met her Howie, who would go on to become her dancing partner for life. They wed in 1960 and laid roots in Woodstock, where they soon started their family. In addition to being an incredible mother and wife, Marion was a pillar in her community, volunteering at many organizations, including the Canadian Red Cross, Canadian Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, Roots of Empathy, and Carleton Manor. Helping others was her calling and filled her heart. Marion’s kindness and generosity were celebrated, awarding her the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2003.
Marion will be remembered by her friends and family as a humanitarian, cancer survivor, nurse, the first Miss New Brunswick, the life of the party, a cake maker, costume maker, animal lover, and a truly remarkable woman. She taught us to enjoy every day to the fullest, laugh often, and the power of positivity. We will miss you, Baba.
Marion’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the amazing staff at the Carleton Manor for the support, love, and care they provided in her final days.
Resting at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, NB. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 16, from 4-7 pm.
The funeral service will be on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 2 pm at the St. James United Church in Woodstock.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Red Cross. Thank you.
