It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marina on January 7th, 2024 in her
Markham home with friends and family at her side. Marina had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer late in 2022 and battled it bravely and without complaint until her final days. Marina was only 57 and had beaten cancer only 10 years before and faced this latest unfairness with equal strength and positive attitude despite the daunting statistics.
Marina was a gift given to us by her mother Nancy Farnell and Eugene Mooney (deceased) of Amherst, Nova Scotia on May 22nd, 1966. She leaves behind her loving husband Jeff Richardson, siblings Patricia and Kelly, as well as countless family, friends, and co-workers. All those touched by Marina’s life are better for it.
Marina earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Mount Allison University and worked in the field of scientific and medical instrumentation for various companies large and small as a Quality Assurance and Testing specialist. She was well respected by her co-workers and always a positive force in the organizations for which she worked.
Marina enjoyed outdoor activities such as canoeing, biking, hiking, and camping and was game for trying sports be it hockey, soccer, or mini triathlons. She loved to participate and always brought a smile to these activities. However, Marina’s greatest gift was singing, which she began at an early age under the guidance of her mother Nancy who was also a talented singer. She sang at music festivals, in school choirs, church choirs, weddings, as a church cantor and even with her husband in the basement rock band. Marina was proud to be a strong member of the Amadeus Choir of Greater Toronto, a semi- professional choir of note that has performed with world class artists.
In the last few years, she had been bitten by the bird-watching bug and spent many quiet hours strolling through Milne Park trying to add to her life list. Birding had become a welcome escape from her health problems and the stresses in her life.
She has touched many lives. Let us all who knew her remember her honesty, kindness and infectious smile.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
