It is with heavy hearts that the children of Marina Bliss (nee Barry) announce the passing of their beloved mother on August 10, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer.
Marina was a devoted daughter, sister, friend, spouse, mother, and grandmother and will be lovingly remembered by all. Marina is survived by her spouse, Villy Madsen; her children Carrie Bliss, Andrew (Andrea) Bliss, and Amberlee (Brian) Plant; her beloved grandchildren, Brooklynn, Jayce, and Julia; her siblings Dale (Paulette) Barry, Ronald (Denise) Barry, Gerald Barry, Dianne Kelly, Laurie (Darren) Barry, James (Maria) Barry, and John Barry; And former spouse, David Bliss.
She was predeceased by her brother, Laurie, and her parents, Doris and Gerald Barry.
Marina was born November 13, 1961 in Spirit River, Alberta to Doris Catherine Gallant of Edmonton, Alberta, and Gerald Stephen Barry of Moosejaw, Saskatchewan and grew up in a few locations over the years, ranging from Eaglesham, to Athabasca and finally St. Albert, Alberta as the 5th of 8 children. She married young to her teenage sweetheart, David Owen Bliss, and although the marriage wasn’t permanent, they shared three beloved children and remained good friends all throughout the remainder of Marina’s life.
Marina went on to meet her life partner, Villy Madsen, and spent many happy years with him as a devoted spouse and mother. She made countless fond memories spending the summers camping, sailing, gardening, crafting, and renovating the house with various DIY projects. She took pride in hosting family dinners for holidays with a full spread of home cooked food and always had a very giving spirit; collecting toys throughout the year to donate to a family in need at Christmas to ensure that every child had at least a few gifts to open on that sacred and special day.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00 am in Holy Cross Cemetery, 14611 Mark Messier Trail, Edmonton, Alberta, with a Visitation at 10:00 am in St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, Alberta.
The family would like to extend a special and sincere thank you to the palliative care staff at St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital for their kindness, care, and compassion.
