Marina Boyle Obituary
It is with sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Louise (Marina) Boyle on Monday, November 4th, 2024.
She was 88 years old. Marina was born in Chatham, New Brunswick on December 2, 1935. Her parents, Larkin and Evelyn Ronan had a family of nine children. Marina was the second youngest of the lively brood. She had many special memories of her youth and the beauty of the small, Maritime town on the Miramichi River.
Marina grew into a lovely young woman. She was beautiful, bright, highly intuitive and meticulous in every aspect of her life. Marina was also perennially kind. After high school, she worked at the Royal Canadian Air Force Station in Chatham where she met flying officer, John Boyle, who would become her husband. After John’s Air Force career, he and Marina settled in Grande Prairie, Alberta where John owned and operated Boyle’s Hatchery.
Marina and John instilled in their children a love of learning and ensured all four pursued a university education. Piano lessons, speech arts, swim meets, hockey games and weekends on the ski hill filled their lives. Most importantly, Marina inspired in her children the importance of showing respect and kindness towards others. Marina treasured being with John, her children and grandchildren. She was the consummate homemaker and flourished as a wife and mother. Marina kept a beautiful home and enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and all things domestic. Marina’s carrot cake was legendary.
When she and John reached their retirement years, they travelled, golfed, played bridge and moved to Okotoks, Alberta to be closer to family. When John passed away in 2015 after 57 years of marriage, Marina stepped out to greet the world on her own. She loved long walks, shopping for beautiful clothes, and continued to enjoy a good game of bridge at the Okotoks and District Seniors Club. But for Marina, family was everything. We, as her children and grandchildren, are so proud and grateful she was ours. We’d often say to one another, “Everyone needs a Marina!” She was that special.
Marina is survived by her four children; Linda Macgillivray (Mark), Joe Boyle (Laura), Shannon Boyle, and John Robert Boyle; two grandchildren, Hannah Macgillivray (Luke Phillips) and Colin Macgillivray; her sisters, Evelyn Webb of Framingham, Massachusetts and Georgina Colton of Chateauguay, Quebec; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church, Okotoks, Alberta (338060 – 32nd Street East)
on Friday, November 15th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary.
