Obituary
SWIM, Marilyn Kelley – 81, of Surf Lodge Nursing Home, formerly of Bridgewater passed away peacefully and with dignity on Friday, January 13, 2023. Born on April 5, 1941, Marilyn was the only child of Maxwell and Audrey (Kelley) Hubley.
Marilyn grew up in Bridgewater until her family moved to Shelburne where she attended Shelburne Regional High School. She could be found most days in the Shelburne Harbour rowing in her punt and she was still rowing at the age of 60 in the LaHave River in the punt built by her husband.
After high school, Marilyn pursued her career in hairdressing. She took her training under the guidance of Ruthie Garber at the «Stay Curl Beauty Shoppe» in Bridgewater. Marilyn was a natural because she completed a two year course in just eleven months. Marilyn started her career with Jean Clayton in Shelburne until she opened her own place in Lockeport called
«Marilyn’s Beauty Salon» which she privately called «Marilyn’s Magic Fingers». She enjoyed her customers and many a joke was shared because Marilyn loved a good joke and could tell a good one too.
Some of her other interests were knitting, needlepoint and in her 40’s, she decided to take up oil painting. Every family member has a treasure from her in their home. Marilyn was a member of the Rebekah Lodge # 127 for 25 years. She was a Lifetime Member of Weight Watchers and she was recognized several times as the top seller in Canada for World Book Encyclopedias. But her proudest personal achievement was her 48 years of sobriety. Marilyn was a wonderful wife to her husband Dannie for 29 years.
She is survived by her beloved husband Dannie Swim, Bridgewater. Dearly loved by daughters, Krista (Jeff) Bell, Jordan Falls and Glenna (Bob) Redding, Shelburne. Also survived by her two grandsons Ryan and Aaron Bell, Hammonds Plains; great grandchildren Connor, Josie, and Nathan Bell. Additionally survived by stepson Devin (Bobbi Jo) Swim, Bakers Settlement and stepdaughter Kyra (Nathan) Taylor, Lockeport and their families.
Marilyn is predeceased by her both parents.
The family extends their greatest gratitude to the entire staff of Surf Lodge for their loving and compassionate care during her time there.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Lockeport. A graveside service will be held at the Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater on Thursday, January 19th at 2pm with Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Marilyn has always loved animals, especially dogs so in her memory donations may be made to SHAID or the Alzheimer’s Society. On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.huskilson.net
