On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, Marilyn Stouffer, beloved wife of Dr. Donald Stouffer of Calgary, Alberta passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre at the age of 83 years.
Marilyn was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, and grew up in southern Alberta including Warner, Cardston, and Lethbridge.
She had a strong testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have been blessed by her faith.
Marilyn, a loyal and loving wife, was very supportive of her husband Don in his career. She was first and foremost a homemaker and enjoyed her time at home raising their eight children. Because of her work ethic, excellent organization, and leadership skills, she taught her children to have a strong work ethic and to love God. She loved and was very protective of her children and over time, that extended to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. One did not mess with any of her children!
She loved to laugh, cook, read, play any game, and watch any sport, but especially hockey when her ”boys” were playing. She was a true sports enthusiast and was an outstanding evaluator of the various sports referees. She loved making every holiday a special occasion, including birthdays and Christmas, especially with her gourmet-style cooking.
Because of her great faith and her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she loved to serve others. As such, she served as Primary President, Relief Society President, and in many other callings.
She graduated from Provo High School in Provo, Utah then attended LDS Business College. After most of her children were grown and gone and the youngest were in school, Marilyn spent many years working at Mount Royal College.
Besides her loving husband of 63 years, Marilyn is survived by her children, Meri Dawn Thompson (Lynn) of Yucaipa, California, Shauna Ockey (Ryan) of Calgary, Susan Pilkington (Tony) of Houston, Texas, Jill Hadden (Ian) of Calgary, Tricia Moser (Donnie) of Yucaipa, California, Erin Singleton (Darren) of Calgary, Mark Stouffer (Melissa) of St. George, Utah; twenty-four grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and sister Norma Ziegler of Calgary.
Marilyn is predeceased by her son Jeffery Stouffer, her parents Marge and Rex Cahoon, and her brother Harlan Cahoon.
A Funeral Service will be held for Marilyn at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – West Stake Center, 6560 Silver Springs Crescent NW, Calgary, Alberta. Burial will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery, 3219 – 4 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta.
