Marina Margaret Ayres
Marina “Tootsie” Margaret Ayres (Née Lawson) passed away peacefully at the age of 87 at Knollcrest Lodge Nursing Home on November 20, 2024.
Marina was born on January 22, 1937, to John and Margaret Lawson in Toronto. At the age of 16, Marina suddenly lost both her parents within four weeks of each other and was left to care for her younger brothers. Despite this tragic loss, she continued to live her life the way she wanted.
Marina married British born Bernard Herbert Ayres (deceased) on July 20, 1957. They had two children, Bernadine (Bunny) and Rodney, who she raised while working as a travel agent.
Marina enjoyed travelling around the globe. Her favourite place was Jamaica, she spent many winters soaking up the sun with her family while visiting her cousin Sylvia and Bob Fallis and their 4 sons (John, Garreth, Blake and Kirk). In her later years, she became a snowbird and spent half the year in St. Petersburg, Florida. Marina loved playing euchre and cribbage.
Marina was the loving sister of Annie and her husband Joe Forester (deceased); George and his wife Betty Lawson (deceased); Phyllis (deceased) and her husband Mike Cook; John and his wife Norine Lawson; David and Margarite Lawson; and Robert (Bobby) Lawson.
Marina was the proud mother to Bernadine and son Rodney.
Marina was the devoted grandma to Randy O’Brien and his fiancée Chanelle; Jessica (deceased); Sophia and Julia; and great grandma to Jasmine.
Her generous spirit knew no bounds, as she gladly opened her home to anyone who needed her.
Marina was an excellent hostess, her family and friends have cherished memories of her many parties, especially her great food.
Marina will be fondly remembered by her large extended family and close friends as a strong woman who fiercely protected her family and was always ready to support them when they needed her the most. Her indomitable spirit, strength of character, and steadfast dedication to living life on her own terms was an inspiration to all that knew her. Marina spent her life defying expectations, and the independent example she set will be sorely missed by her loved ones.
Marina requested not to have a funeral and instead her ashes will be laid to rest in Jamaica.
In lieu of flower, donations can be made to The Local Community Food Centre in Stratford and the Stratford Lakeside Active Adults Association and can be made through the funeral home webiste.
