Passed away in the presence of her family, at her home in Sunnyside on May 2, 2023, Marie Smith, aged 72. Left with many fond and loving memories are her husband John of 53 years, sons Duane (Karen), Tyson (Nancy) and daughter Leanne (Rocky Adams), grandchildren Rebecca, Delaney, McKenna, Tara Lynn, Logan, Owen, Avery, and one great grandson Finn. Also mourning her loss are her devoted and loving niece Norma Rose, brother Ivan Marsh, sisters-in-law Janice Smith (Dave), Sylvia Thistle, and Rowena Smith, brothers-in-law Clyde Rose (Maisie), Melvin Smith and Luke Smith (Denise). Also other relatives and many friends. Marie is predeceased by infant son John, her parents Norman and Marnie Snook, parents-in-law Wilson and Ruby Smith, sister Myrtice Rose, brothers-in-law Elwyn Smith and Calvin Thistle, and sister-in-law Elizabeth Marsh.
Marie grew up “in the cove” in Sunnyside. She began her career at Walwyn Hospital, Come by Chance and later she transferred to GB Cross Hospital where she worked until her retirement in 2010. Many people will recall her pleasant attitude as she checked-in patients at the admitting office.
Marie and John were “cabin people” and enjoyed socializing with their family and friends “in the woods” on every possible opportunity. They looked forward to enjoying their retirement days relaxing at the cabin. However, in the blink of an eye their plans for their retirement days were changed completely. In 2014, after experiencing some slight health issues, Marie was shocked to be diagnosed with cancer in both kidneys. Since that time she has had many difficult days, but being the strong person she was, she faced each day bravely and never complained about her failing health. Although she has been dealing with health issues for a long time, her passing on Tuesday evening was unexpected.

As per Marie’s wishes cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Sunnyside from 2:00–4:00 pm and 7:00–9:00 pm on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
Funeral will take place at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 8, 2023.
In lieu of flowers donations in Marie’s memory may be made to The Health Care Foundation, in support of the dialysis program.
