It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Marie Sereda nee Bilcowski on April 17, 2024 at the age of 86.
Marie’s claim to fame was becoming the first ever female letter carrier in Thunder Bay for which she was very proud.
She met her husband Melvin Thompson in 1960 and together they raised a family of five boys.
She was later blessed with meeting and falling in love with Ted Sereda. They purchased a farm in South Gillies where they spent many years gardening and excelled at growing everything under the sun.
They later sold the farm and moved to a warmer climate in Campbell River, B.C. They enjoyed many years
and special times spent with Ted’s daughter Kathy and her husband Ian before they relocated back home
to Thunder Bay.
Marie was an amazing cook and loved her extensive collection of recipes. She took pride in her tradition of baking the most incredible assortment of pastries at Christmas time and sharing with family members.
Her greatest hobbies and passions were travelling, needle point, reading and doing scenic puzzles. Nothing pleased her more than hours spent playing the game of Yahtzee and crib with her sister Debbie.
In 2018 after 45 wonderful years of marriage, Ted passed away and left a huge void in Marie’s heart.
She was also predeceased by Melvin Thompson, son Kerry Maclam, Mother Helen Bilcowski, Sisters Vicki Dubois and Ann Rocca, Brothers Albert, Dan, Brian and Carson Bilcowski.
Left to mourn are her sons Donald Maclam (Sharlyn), Bob Maclam, Frank Thompson (Jacky), Kevin Thompson, step-children Kathy Grant and Wayne Sereda (Cheryl).
Siblings Ed Bilcowski (Leoni), Joe Bilcowski (Milka), David Bilcowski (Joanne), John Bilcowski, Len Bilcowski (Dawn), and sister Debbie McDonald.
Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
