Marie Claus passed away suddenly on November 27, 2024 at the age of 90 years. Born on December 16, 1933 in Ingersoll, Ontario, Marie was the beloved daughter of Charles and Ruth Holmes. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Claus, and her sister Kathleen Wever.
Marie lived in Dorchester Ontario for the past five years, but spent most of her adult life in Tillsonburg. She was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church and the St. Paul’s United Church Women. She was an avid golfer at the Tillsonburg Golf Club. Marie was retired from Bell Canada, where she was lucky enough to meet many colleagues who became friends, but she especially enjoyed a close-knit group of friends in Tillsonburg who shall always be known as “The Birthday Girls”.
In her later years, Marie love to read, put together puzzles, have lunch with friends, take bus trips, and of course, browse and shop online with her iPad, especially during the winter months. During the summer months, everyone knew that they could find Marie sunbathing in the courtyard in her favourite chair. She remained independent, clear minded and committed to managing her own affairs.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Watson and her husband Verne, Carolyn Connor and her husband, Paul, Pat Todt and her husband, Ernie and Jackie Lecuyer and her husband Joe. She leaves behind her grandchildren Sean, Erin (Vince), Kimberley (Lee), Kyla (Paul), Craig (Ashley), Kyle (Jake), Corey, Chauntel (Alex) and Luke, as well as 10 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson who will all cherish her memory.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Dorchester Terrace retirement residence for the care and support provided to Marie during her five-year residency. Although she missed her home in Tillsonburg she was happy there.
At the request of Marie cremation has taken place The family will celebrate Marie’s life on Monday, December 9, 2024 at St. Paul’s United Church, 88 Bidwell St., Tillsonburg, where her service will be held at 1:00pm followed by a luncheon in the church banquet hall, immediately following her service.
In lieu of flowers, those interested may consider making a memorial donation to the LHSC – Verspeeten Family Cancer Center and can be made directly with the charity or by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home who have been trusted with the arrangements of Marie
