Marie Banderob, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 16 at the age of 91, surrounded by her loving family.
Marie was born and raised on a farm in Woolwich Township, where she developed a deep love of nature, a strong work ethic, and a no-nonsense attitude-qualities she carried with her throughout her life.
Marie began her professional life as a hairdresser, a craft she enjoyed until she married Uwe (Joe) on July 21, 1962. Together, they built a family, welcoming six beautiful children into their lives. Tragically, they lost their infant daughter Monika, a loss Marie carried with her always, keeping her memory close to her heart.
Marie and Joe shared many adventures with their children, including a memorable 1975 journey across the west coast of Canada in a Volkswagen Camper Van. With five children in tow, the family created memories that would last a lifetime. Camping trips to places like Belwood Lake, Bancroft, and Algonquin were filled with Marie’s love of collecting driftwood, plants, rocks, and soil-a testament to her passion for nature.
Marie was a talented artist whose creativity touched many. She expressed herself through intricate quilting, painting, and the creation of stunning Bonsai trees. Her artistic spirit left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to witness her work.
Marie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Yvonne (Gareth), David (Tracy), Joe (Roxane), Lisa (Tony), and Peter. Her cherished grandchildren, Michael, Chris (Chelsea), Kara (Kody), Jacob (Léa), Victoria (Graeme), Brooker, Brittany, Brianne, and Bailey, and her great-granddaughter Nova, will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Above all, Marie will be deeply missed by her life partner, best friend, and husband, Uwe (Joe), who fondly recalls the incredible life they built together.
The family would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the incredible staff at Trinity Village Care Centre in Kitchener for the kindness, respect and love you have shown Marie, Joe and the entire family over the last 6 years.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Henry Walser Funeral Home, 519-749-8467. A small family celebration of Marie’s life will be held on Saturday, September 20th in Cambridge.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or Waterloo Wellington would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
