Maria Braga Andrade passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on June 8, 2024 at St. Andrew’s Terrace. Maria was the loving wife of her late husband Manuel Andrade (1986) and is survived by her son Tony (Rosa) and her adored grandchildren Alison (Ryan) and Christopher (Serenity). Predeceased by her parents Manuel Pedro Figueiredo (1970) and Ana Soares Braga (1990), and her brothers Antonio (1955), Jose (late Gloria), João (Rosa), and Angelo (Maria do Carmo). She will be sadly missed by her sister Ines (Manuel) and brothers Manuel (Ermalinda), Bernardino (Eliza), Evaristo (Fatima), and Jaime (late Livramento). Maria will also be missed by her in-laws, extended family, and friends.
Maria was born and raised in Santa Maria Açores and immigrated to Canada in 1961. She married in 1966 and relocated to Cambridge (Galt) from Leamington, Ontario. Maria valued her religion and Portuguese culture. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cat Tobi. Maria was a very hard worker; she worked many years in woodworking finishing and her last 10 working years at Di Pietros as a Bakery Assistant. Her retirement allowed her to raise her grandchildren while enjoying gardening and cooking. Those who knew her well are left to cherish memories of a woman who was selfless, caring, and loving to everyone around her.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, June 12, from 6-9 pm at Corbett Funeral Home (95 Dundas Street, Cambridge, ON). At 8 pm, the rosary will be recited.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church (53 Wellington Street, Cambridge, ON) on Thursday, June 13, at 2 pm. Interment will follow at Mount View Cemetery (80 Blenheim Road, Cambridge, ON).
Many thanks to the staff at Cambridge Memorial Hospital and St. Andrew’s Terrace for their compassion, care, and support. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada are appreciated.
