Maria Beardy, age 81 years passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 18. 2024 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Maria was born on January 15, 1943. She worked as a Community Health Representative (CHR), Mental Health Worker and Nodin for most of her working years. Maria enjoyed camping, Memowskawia events, cooking, gathering traditional medicine, berries, enjoyed making pemmican, beadwork, she especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She took pride in being a Lay Reader, a Spiritual Advisor and a Midwife.
She is survived by Alvin (Edna), Dean (Geraldine), Robert (Jacqueline), Jackson (Jeanette), Virginia (Titus), Cindy (Amos), Isabelle (Michael) and her precious «Larry», as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is predeceased by her husband Soloman, her parents Gabriel and Annie Kamenawatamin, brother Moses Kamenawatamin, grandsons Gabriel Beardy, Aaron Beardy, Darr McKay and great granddaughter Elaina Beardy. A Funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024 in the Chapel of Sargent and Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street. Visitation will be held one hour prior.
