Our beloved Margaret E. «Peggy» Lister, passed
suddenly on November 25th, 2023 surrounded by
family at the Charlotte County Hospital, at the age of
83.
Peggy was born in St Stephen, New Brunswick to the late Ivy
(Porter) and Lawrence Smith.
Peggy was very proud of growing up in Hayman Hill.
Peggy and her sister Joyce would faithfully have
Saturday lunches all around St. Stephen, up until the day of her
passing. She very much looked forward to the drive afterwards to
«The Hill» to visit and catch up with their brother Jerry.
Her family all knew her agenda on Saturdays and knew they would have
to plan around her day out because it was rare for her to ever change
plans.
Peggy was a loving wife of 62 blessed years to Paul N.
Lister. Peggy and Paul first met in 1956, consolidating their
commitment by getting married in 1961. Peggy very much enjoyed time
with her husband. The two had a deep, old-school kind of relationship
with pure love for each other. Peggy was a devoted, loving wife who
adored caring for her husband. Peggy and Paul have so many cherished
memories together over the years, in particular one of their favorites
was the drives to Cathance Lake to open the cottage up for Dick and
Ingrid Morton. They loved their friendship and looked forward for
Chris Straub to join them for an evening of cards, snacks, and many
laughs all while taking in the beautiful view of the lake and many
boat rides.
Peggy and Paul have had many pets over the years. Their cat
Makida was a family favorite of 22 years. The cat was known to be the
protector of their house and the family knew she was boss. Peggy was
so proud of their newest little addition Poppy. Peggy would never
agree to a new animal unless her husband gave the ok and as soon as he
did, she knew the cat was there to stay and be spoiled
forever.
Peggy loved being outside on a beautiful day and was often on
the deck reading a book in the sunshine while Paul would be in the
garage building something or sneaking in an afternoon nap. Peggy would
often laugh because when she would ask if he had a nap, Paul would
always say «I was just resting my eyes».
They loved washers in the garage, and anyone that
has had to play against them knew they had to bring out their
best.
Peggy was the most nurturing mother to her three beautiful
children, Nancy Linton, Marc Lister (Marilyn), Tanya Johnston
(Rodney), all her pride and joy. Peggy was so proud to be their mother
and loved to talk about each of them any chance she
could.
Peggy was such a natural caregiver, so much so that all her
children’s friends growing up would want to stay at their
house because of her good food and great loving atmosphere. If there
is a book to describe what a perfect mother would be, her picture
would be on the front page.
Peggy «Gram» had nine grandchildren, Brandon
Lister, Kayli Linton (Michael Kinghorne), Aimee Hanson (Geoff
MacQuarrie), Tabatha Woodside, Colton Linton, Renee Lister, Tarron
Lister (Cassandra Acheson), Julia Cunningham (Daniel Cunningham) and
Josie Lister (Spencer Carrier). Peggy «Gram» would always
find a way for each of them to feel like they are her «the
favorite» and spoiled them more often than not. She loved with
her whole heart, and each of them felt it. Peggy also had several
great grandchildren who loved her beyond words.
Peggy was a sister to Jerry Smith and Joyce (Smith) Jackson,
sister-in-law to Charlotte Smith, as well as an aunt to several nieces
and nephews.
Peggy was predeceased by her brother Norman Smith and
brother-in-law Robert «Bob» Jackson, sister-in-law Liz
Smith.
Peggy was a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin
and Second mother to so many. She would light up any room she was
present in. Her voice may not have been loud (rather calm and soft)
but she always was the center of attention. She had the best visits
with anyone lucky enough to know her.
Peggy being missed is an understatement. She was one of the
good ones.
As per Peggy’s wishes, a celebration of life will
be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the NB Heart and Stroke
Foundation or of one’s choice will be greatly
appreciated. Condolences may be sent to the family online at

A special thanks to Dr.Rask and the staff at the Charlotte
County Hospital.
