Marguerite Patrick Obituary
We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother, Marguerite Catherine Patrick. Marguerite was the sixth child born to Dan and Lavina Buchanan on June 1, 1938. Mom passed peacefully June 3, 2024, at the age of 86, at Golden, BC. Marguerite was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Patrick; sisters, Velda Ahearn and Phyllis Clarke; brothers, Calvin Buchanan, Bob Buchanan and Lorne Buchanan.
She is survived by her four children, Dawn (Randy) Baun, Darla (Dave) Gerwatosky, Derrik (Faye) Patrick and Delanee (Mike) Jmaiff; six grandchildren, Justin, Jordan, Jalene, Travis, Harlee and Roland; seven great grandchildren, Emma, Betty, Bowin, Brooklynn, Russel, Hayley, Hannah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marguerite was born in Big River, SK. She followed her brother Bob to BC, where she worked as a waitress at Radium Hot Springs and, later, in Parson. She met our dad, Gerald, while working at the Parson Hotel. She was always a little firecracker – tiny, mighty and fearless and everyone knew where they stood with Marguerite. Her first encounter with her “father-in-law to be” was as a waitress at the Parson Hotel. When he complained his coffee wasn’t full, she filled it to the brim, filled his saucer and said, “Is that full enough for you?” Later that evening, they were introduced. That’s how mom rolled, no sugar coating and no filter and she remained that way to the end. We loved and respected her for always being true to herself.
Mom and Dad worked side by side throughout their married lives. They started many businesses together, including Golden Yamaha, Golden Toyota, Big Lake Resort and Dilly’s Restaurant and Pool Hall. Needless to say, all us kids always had a job, whether we wanted one or not.
Mom will be laid to rest with dad at the Kelvingrove Cemetery in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, later this summer. A small graveside service will be held for family and close friends.
Rest easy, Mom. We will miss you dearly, think of you always and cherish the times we had with you.
