Margaurite F. Mayes Williams – age 94 of Blaine went to Heaven on Thursday, June 22, 2023 after a lengthy illness. She was born May 30, 1929 in Rutledge, TN. Margaurite retired from Bossier Parish School System in Louisiana in 1990. She moved back to East Tennessee in 1990 and said she was so glad to be back with her family in “God’s Country.” She attended Block Springs Baptist Church in Blaine, TN.
Preceded in death by parents, J. Carl Mayes and Hazel McElhaney Mayes of Corryton, TN; husband and children’s father, Elmer L. Baughard; infant daughter, Deborah Baughard; son, Michael Baughard; sisters, Allie Mae (Lloyd) King, Dorothy (Sam) Slagle; brothers, John C. (Mick) Mayes, Jr. and Jess (Flora) Mayes, Sr.; brother-in-law, John L. Conley; sister-in-law, Barbara Mayes; and son-in-law, Charles E. Mitchell.
Survivors include daughter, Sharon Mitchell; grandson, Shawn Mitchell; granddaughter, Shannon Mitchell; great grandsons, Jacob P. Mitchell and Jamaree Moore; great granddaughters, Jazmine and Jadaisha LaCure; great great grandson, Jacari Gallatin; brothers, Jackie C. Mayes, Sr., Jerry L Mayes; sister, Juanita Mayes Conley; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and good friends, Edna Lee and Mike Stiles from Bossier City, LA.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Bridges Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 7:00 PM with Rev. Gary Satterfield officiating. Family and friends will meet 12:00 PM at Bridges Funeral Home on Wednesday and go in procession to Clear Springs Cemetery in Mascot, TN for a 1:00 PM interment. Pallbearers: Chris Mayes, Kevin Mayes, Brad Conley, Shawn Mitchell, Jacob Mitchell and Jamaree Moore. Honorary pallbearers: Wayne Mayes, Denny Mayes, Jackie Mayes, Jr., Ronnie King, and Jess Mayes, Jr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blaine Volunteer Fire Department.
