It is with sadness I share news of the passing of Margaretha (Marry) Maria Zylstra (nee Wiepjes-Zaaijer) on the evening of February 26, 2023.
Despite tremendous optimism and fortitude, Marry has lost a second battle with cancer. In the summer of 2022, after a 4-month admittance to St. Peter’s Palliative Care Hospital, we were pleased to hear that her progress warranted her transition to Long Term Care. With special thanks for the tremendous care and guidance from the Hospital staff, we found the best transition to coincidentally be at St. Peter’s Residence at Chedoke on the Hamilton Mountain. Marry continued to receive the same excellent level of care and compassion with the bonus of much extra time being spent with her children and her grandchildren.
On behalf of our family, we extend the greatest thanks and endorsement of the staff of both St. Peter’s locations. Their efforts and kindness are significantly appreciated.
Marry will be greatly missed by her three children and families.
Ellen (Blake) Koehler, Randy (Angela) Wiepjes, and Kenneth (Irene) Wiepjes.
She is also Omi to Travis (Tess Carruthers) Koehler, Alexis (Rob) Koehler-Salituro, Michelle (Anthony) Wiepjes-Van Wyngaarden, Matthew (Taylor) Wiepjes, Julia Wiepjes, and Amanda Wiepjes.
Additionally, Marry enjoyed the gift of four great grandchildren, who always brought a smile to her face; Aubrey and Ariana Salituro, Felix Van Wyngaarden and Theodore Wiepjes.
Marry will also be missed by many family members still in the Netherlands from where Marry and Willem (Wiepjes) immigrated to Canada as young newlyweds. With heavy hearts, Willem left us in 1979. (Marry pre-deceases her second husband Henk Zylstra.)
Marry always had a positive attitude and will be remembered by many when asked how she was doing. Her response was unfailingly … “I’m A-Ok!”
A private family Celebration of Life will be held in her honour.
